CFturbo - Turbomachinery Design Software: Radial, Mixed-flow Pump and Ventilator Impellers and Volutes

Language

Volute: design steps

1. Inflow definition

  • Input of design point and der data of impeller outlet
  • Calculation/specification of volute inlet
  • Information regarding inlet diameter and width ratio

2.1 Volute geometry

  • Specification of wrap angle and start angle
  • Calculation of volute geometry by design rule of PFLEIDERER (const. swirl) or STEPANOFF (const. velocity)
  • Specification of cut-water thickness or rounding from spirale to diffusor

2.2 Cross sections

  • Possible cross section shapes: Rectangle, Trapezoid, symmetric/asymmetric circle, free-form (Bezier)
  • Information regarding end cross section: height, width, side ratio, equivalent diameter, area, average velocity

2.3 Free-form (Bezier) cross section

  • Free form cross section shape by Bezier splines
  • Rectangle/ Trapezoid type
  • relative/ absolute coupling of cross sections

2.4 Diffusor

  • Tangential or radial direction
  • Round or rectangular end cross section
  • Information regarding cone angle and deceleration ratio

3. 3D-view, Export

  • 3D view as solid or wire frame
  • Rotate, translate, zoom, color configuration possible
  • Data export of geometry data to several CAE formats: IGES, DXF, Unigraphics, PRO/Engineer Wildfire, SolidWorks, Catia V5, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, One Space Designer, ANSYS ICEM-CFD, Gridgen, IGG (Numeca), text file
  • Other interfaces to CAD systems, mesh generators, CFD- or FEM packages optional available on request.
